Ripe yellow fruits, lemon balm, jasmine blossom and a steely backbone – there is much to love in this Gavi from Francesco Rinaldi. The wine is round and structured, more so than many other Gavis in the region and this makes slightly more serious in style. There is a firm, medium body which is offset perfectly by the ripe and concentrated peach and pear notes on the palate, these give way to a bright and refreshing finish during which the minerality really shines through. A great match for grilled white meats, in particular pork, this would also do excellently next to meaty white fish or a seafood fritto misto!
The Cortese grape thrives in the rich, warm soils in southern Piedmont and Francesco Rinaldi use of their winemaking expertise further north in Barolo to produce this Gavi wine of real attraction. The wine spends 10 days in cold fermentation which preserves the delicate fruit character of the Cortese grape. After a couple of months settling in stainless steel, the wine is bottled and released, best consumed within a couple of years!
Francesco Rinaldi is a historic name in Piedmontese and Italian winemaking. Established in the late 1800s, today it is the fifth generation, sisters Piera and Paola that run the winery. They are turned to for exemplary Barolos made in the traditional way but across the board, their wines display precision and balance and are a beautiful addition to any wine rack.
